Mohanlal’s Thudarum Makes History: First Malayalam Film to Earn ₹100 Crore in Kerala Alone

Mohanlal’s Thudarum Creates Box-Office History, Becomes First Malayalam Movie To Earn ₹100 Crore In Kerala Alone

Malayalam cinema has just witnessed a historic moment! Mohanlal’s latest film Thudarum has become the first Malayalam movie to collect ₹100 crore at the Kerala box office alone, smashing the previous record held by the 2023 hit 2018.

Thudarum Breaks Records at Kerala Box Office

Directed by Tharun Moorthy, Thudarum is a gripping crime thriller that has been dominating theaters since its release. The film stars Malayalam cinema legend Mohanlal alongside Sobhana, and has been receiving massive appreciation from both critics and audiences.

Mohanlal celebrated this record-breaking milestone on social media, writing:

“Thudarum storms into the record books with its first 100 crore mark exclusively at the Kerala box office! A milestone that we created together! Thank you, Kerala.”

The official poster of the film now proudly reads:

“A new chapter in Kerala box office history. ₹100 crore Kerala gross.”

Surpassing 2018’s Box Office Milestone

Before Thudarum, the highest-grossing Malayalam film in Kerala was 2018, which earned ₹83.31 crore net in the state and ₹110.53 crore gross across India. But now, Thudarum has taken the lead with an impressive ₹104 crore net collection across India in just 19 days, according to Sacnilk.

Globally, the film has earned ₹208 crore in 18 days, and while it is still behind all-time Malayalam hits like L2: Empuraan and Manjummel Boys, it’s quickly climbing the ranks.

What is Thudarum About?

Thudarum tells the emotional story of Shanmugham, also known as ‘Benz’—a kind-hearted taxi driver whose life spirals into chaos after his beloved car goes missing. What starts as a simple search turns into a powerful, life-changing journey, testing his will and strength.

The movie, produced by M Renjith under Rejaputhra Visual Media, features a talented ensemble cast including:

  • Mohanlal
  • Sobhana
  • Prakash Varma
  • Farhaan Faasil
  • Maniyanpilla Raju
  • Binu Pappu
  • Irshad Ali
  • Aarsha Chandini Baiju

Critics and fans have compared Thudarum to Mohanlal’s classic Drishyam, praising it for its emotional depth and captivating narrative.

What’s Next for Thudarum?

As the film continues its blockbuster run in cinemas, fans and industry analysts are now watching closely to see if Thudarum can surpass the lifetime collections of Empuraan and Manjummel Boys. Either way, it's clear: Mohanlal’s magic at the box office is stronger than ever.
